Profession Assistant Vice President Engineering
August 2008
Pierre's high school sweetheart, Alli, is an Australian native who works as a clinical therapist. They married in 2002 and their son Elias was born in November 2006.
Pierre grew up in Clifton Springs, New York. His father, who graduated from U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in 1959 and then continued a career in sailing, influenced Pierre's interest in the marine industry. Pierre graduated from the USMMA (Kings Point) in 1996 and began sailing with American Steamship Company as a Third Assistant Engineer on the Str. John J. Boland out of Lackawanna, New York. Pierre was hired in the office as an Engineer in 1998 and promoted to Assistant Vice President Engineering in 2006.
In his spare time, Pierre relaxes by tinkering with antique tractors. His interest started by working on them with his dad on their 150 acre farm. Pierre also enjoys motorcycling on his Harley. He started cycling when he and a friend decided they were going to ride their motorcycles to Alaska. They still have that to do.
Pierre and Alli's favorite vacation spot is Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. They said it is beautiful and an untouched natural masterpiece.
Pierre says, "There is no other job that is more continually fascinating, varied, and challenging. Every day is a great surprise. In addition, the dedication of the people in this company makes it a pleasure to come to work. There is no example better than the M/V Walter J. McCarthy Jr.'s salvage and repair crew. I share this award with them."
"My most memorable moment with ASC is standing on the forward mast of the recently reactivated straight decker Str. Edward L. Ryerson while in dry-dock watching our newly acquired vessels, the Str. American Victory and M/V American Century being renamed, and the 1942 WW II veteran, Str. Lee A. Tregurtha being converted to diesel propulsion. A unique moment.
Pierre's enthusiastic and professional approach to vessel maintenance management was never more evident than during the casualty repairs to the M/V Walter J. McCarthy Jr. over the winter of 2008. This unprecedented work to inspect and repair the ship's flooded lower engine room was extremely complex, requiring control of an extraordinary number of inspection and refurbishment tasks. Due to Pierre's efforts, the McCarthy was returned to service significantly sooner that anticipated.
